Applying a DIY design is a straightforward process, but it does require attention to detail and patience to ensure a smooth and bubble-free finish. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you apply your new DIY like a pro:

Materials Needed

• Sticker or Decal
• Spray Bottle (70% Isopropyl Alcohol)
• Squeegee or Credit Card
• Microfiber Cloth or Lint-Free Towel
• Measuring Tape

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Choose an Appropriate Location
   1. Find a Flat-ish Surface: The application surface should be as flat as possible, without major curves or ridges.
   2. Consider Weather Conditions: Ideally, work in a shaded area with temperatures between 50°F and 90°F (10°C and 32°C) to prevent adhesive issues due to temperature extremes.
2. Clean the Surface
   1. Wash Thoroughly: Use your 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the area where you plan to apply the sticker. Make sure all dirt, wax, and grease are removed.
   2. Dry Completely: Use a microfiber cloth to dry the surface to prevent any moisture from interfering with adhesion.
3. Position the Sticker
   1. Measure and Align: If you require precision, use a measuring tape to position the sticker exactly where you want it. Take measurements from edges or landmarks to ensure it's centered and level.

      PROTIP: use a measuring tape used for fabrics to avoid potentially scratching your paint!

   2. Use Masking Tape for Hinge: Tape the top edge of the sticker with masking tape to act as a hinge, allowing you to flip the sticker upwards without losing alignment.
4. Apply the Sticker
   1. Peel Backing Paper: Carefully peel away the backing paper from the sticker, starting at the top hinge edge. Avoid touching the adhesive side with your fingers.
   2. Pull tension: Lightly pull tension on the bottom of the sticker and lay it flat down onto the surface. This is called “Glassing” the sticker because it should look smooth and wrinkle free like a perfect piece of glass.
5. Smooth the Sticker
   1. Use a Squeegee or Credit Card: Starting from the center, use a squeegee or credit card to press the sticker onto the car. Move outward towards the edges to remove air bubbles and excess water.
   2. Apply Even Pressure: Use firm, even strokes, and work methodically across the sticker.
6. (OPTIONAL) Remove the Transfer Tape
   1. Peel Slowly: If your sticker comes with transfer tape, carefully peel it off once the sticker is in place. Pull it back slowly at a sharp angle (close to 180°) to avoid lifting the sticker.
7. Inspect for Bubbles
   1. Look for any bubbles under the sticker. Use a squeegee to press them out. Always press them to the nearest edge. Work slowly and be patient. Quickly pressing bubbles out may damage the decal.
8. Final Touches
   1. Allow Time to Set: Let the sticker set and dry for at least 24 hours before washing your car or exposing it to extreme weather conditions.
9. Check Adhesion
   1. After drying, press down on the edges to ensure full adhesion. If edges lift, reapply pressure.

Additional Tips

• Practice First: If you're new to applying large stickers, practice with smaller ones in less conspicuous areas to get the hang of it.
• Look for Curves: DIY stickers can bend around minor curves but the difficulty of installation rises. Assess your location thinking about how the sticker will bend around a corner.
• Patience is Key: Take your time during each step to ensure a professional result.

Caring for your new wrap!

1. Wash Regularly
   1. Wash whenever the car appears dirty. Contaminants allowed to remain on the graphic may be more difficult to remove during cleaning.
   2. Rinse off as much dirt and grit as possible with a spray of water. For spot cleaning (bird droppings, tar, etc.) Use a wet, non-abrasive detergent and a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
   3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. To reduce water spotting, immediately use a silicone squeegee to remove water and finish with a clean microfiber cloth. Wrapmate does not recommend Pressure Washing or Automated Car Washes. This could void any warranty with Wrapmate and Wrapmate Pro Shops.
2. Fuel Spills
   1. Wash whenever the car appears dirty. Contaminants allowed to remain on the graphic may be more difficult to remove during cleaning.
   2. Store Indoors or Under Cover Whenever Possible.
   3. Vinyl graphics (just like paint) are degraded by prolonged exposure to sun and atmospheric pollutants, particularly on the horizontal surfaces such as hood, trunk lid and roof. Whenever possible, store in a garage or at least in a shaded area during the day. At night protect the car from dew or rain, which may contain acidic pollutants (a common problem in many large metropolitan areas).
   4. When a garage is not available, consider using a cloth car cover at night. If your graphics start to discolor or turn brown, immediately contact your wrapmate account manager.
3. Difficult Contaminants
   1. Soften difficult contaminants such as bug splatter, bird droppings, tree sap and similar contaminants by soaking them for several minutes with very hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. If further cleaning is needed, contact your Wrapmate Account Manager for recommendations.
   2. Do not use rough scrubbing or abrasive tools which will scratch film. Wash and rinse off all residue immediately.
4. Film Restoration
   1. Do not use any abrasive polishes or cutting compounds.
   2. If there is wax or wax residue on the surface, remove with an all-purpose cleaner. If you notice fading or dullness appearing on your wrap, please send pictures to your account manager for immediate assistance.
